Cowboy

There you lay on that hospital bed
And yet not a tear do you even shed
While I’m right here looking at the view
Of you sleeping for what cancer did to you

Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do
And yet here I am kneeling next to you
Not really sure about what to say
But Grandpa its better if you don’t stay

It’s getting harder and harder to watch you die
I can’t help myself from wanting to cry
But you’re going to a better place for you to truly enjoy
And I swear, you’ll always be my Gramps and I’ll be your Cowboy

I’ve kept your dad’s hat that you gave to me
It means a lot more than most people will see
It’s something for me to admire and love
To cheer me up when push comes to shove

It’s getting harder and harder to watch you die
I can’t help myself from wanting to cry
But you’re going to a better place for you to truly enjoy
And I swear, you’ll always be my Gramps and I’ll be your Cowboy

You’ll always be in our hearts and that’s not a lie
It’s time to let go now, please don’t be shy
I promise I’ll care for the family for you
Especially Grandma ’cause you told me to

It’s getting harder and harder to watch you die
I can’t help myself from wanting to cry
But you’re going to a better place for you to truly enjoy
And I swear, you’ll always be my Gramps and I’ll be your Cowboy

It’s time Grandpa its time to leave this sad place
To leave all behind and follow God’s face
You’ll be better off than us in a place you’ll truly enjoy
I just want you to know, I’ll always be your Cowboy
