Rise Over Run This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Come in, take a seat
Shut up and let me teach
Spit out the gum, roll up your sleeves
Pay careful attention and listen to me
What I am about to say is key
You will use it for a lifetime, wait and see

Forget about equations or solving for x
Forget about cosine and whatever's next
Listen here, girls and boys, daughters and sons
The only thing that matters now is rise over run
Rise over run, Rise over run, Rise over run
The only thing that matters now is rise over run

No talking, no singing along
Whatever your answer is, it's wrong
Be quiet, kid, shut up
Don't you dare try and interrupt
What I am about to say is key
You will use it for a lifetime, wait and see

Forget about equations or solving for x
Forget about cosine and whatever's next
Listen here, girls and boys, daughters and sons
The only thing that matters now is rise over run
Rise over run, Rise over run, Rise over run
The only thing that matters now is rise over run

You see, child, this information is essential
Store it away in your mind, make it official
Tell your friends, grown-ups too
Tell everyone what to do

Tell them to forget about equations or solving for x
Tell them to forget about cosine and whatever's next
Say listen here, girls and boys, daughters and sons
The only thing that matters now is rise over run
Rise over run, Rise over run, Rise over run
The only thing that matters now is rise over run

This is a cool poem. I like how it can be interpretted to be about life in general, like you have to go to school to rise up before you can hit the ground running. Great job.

Great poem! I love the way you wrote it from the teachers point of view, and that was one snarky teacher! My class despises slope formulas and this made me laugh! :)

This is a song lyrics right? It describes the school life perfectly! No wonder it's the Editor's Choice! Great job!
