we want it all, or so we say,
but what gets lost along the way?
when we gain riches, fame,
our viewpoints completely rearrange.
how can we add up what it cost?
how do we fathom what is lost?
what is the price of popularity?
is it worth His sincerity?
is this the way He taught us to live,
possibly losing all He gives?
still, the Son gave His all,
paid the price, took the fall.
for all He gave, what'd He earn?
what did we choose to give in return?
so I'll give my everything,
every word I write, each note I sing
not for riches and not for fame,
I'll give to glorify His worthy Name.

The author's comments:
People in high school, girls especially, are so concerned with being popular and having the right appearance. College students are so worried about succeeding and finding a job. We spend so much of our time trying to bring our status higher, earn more money, look prettier, etc. There's nothing wrong with this as long as we are doing it to glorify God not ourselves. What is success without Him? If popularity takes giving away my faith, fine. I don't want it without Him.
