YOU DON’T HAVE TO HURT YOURSELF

You show me the scars on your wrists.
Turns out they mirror the scars on your heart.
We continue to talk and time flies by and I realize you are torn apart.
My heart starts breaking and I silently cry.
All this time I’ve known you
I could never understand
why you were always so mean…
why you always seemed to be wearing a mask.
I never knew what you are going through,
but now that I finally do
I just want you to know
That it doesn’t have to be this way…

I just want you to remember
that you don’t have to hurt yourself.
Remember that people do care about you
and what you have to say
and what you’re going through.
Please remember that you’re not alone.
Please remember that you don’t have to hurt yourself.
You just have to open your mouth.

You’re convinced that you’re not good enough
and that you’ll never be worth anything.
You swear you’re wasting perfectly good air
just by breathing in and out.
You’re so close to ending it all
because this life is just too much to bear.
I’ll catch you when you fall.
Please, don’t talk like that.
Can’t you see how much you matter to the world?
Can’t you see how much you matter to me?
Will you ever see yourself clearly?
Will you ever believe in yourself?
Will you ever realize…

*CHORUS*

You don’t have to hurt yourself.
You just have to open your mouth…
You just have to open your mouth.
