"There is so much scope for the imagination."~Anne Shirley from "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery

Specks of quiet midnight spout
And stars of light that we reach out
To touch with sacred, hallowed hands
At their beauty

And we are what we want to be
And we see what we want to see
Till everything evaporates
In moonlight of shallow pools

Cause we all want a day worth living
And we all want a gift worth giving
That lets us climb to heights we never knew

And we all want a chance for glory
That binds us for a moment in frozen time
In our hourglass of light

Characters lined on a stage
And maybe we might fade away
Into a realm of hapless dreams
That lead us into earthquakes

And costumes rip and trophies fall
But all alone you’re standing tall
Cause this is what you said you loved
And all you’ve ever wanted

But sometimes when we reach our height
We’re looking back to see what we might
Have missed along the way
And now we have to stay

And in the end you’re cold and lost
Cause shining stars all have their cost
Don’t they? Don’t they just sweep you up?

Cause we all want a day worth living
And we all want a gift worth giving
That let's us climb to heights
We never knew

And we all want a chance for glory
That binds us for a moment in frozen time

In our hourglass of light

I wrote this after an experience in a high school musical, and it was also inspired by many celebrities and their unfortunate endings at the cost of fame.
