Cars whisper in the dark over black tar
Slick with rain.
I’ve called everyone I know but no one’s coming
Phone booths are a lot like confession booths
You spill your guts to strangers you can’t see

Love is just a ghost
Love is just a ghost
Love is just a ghost
Love is just a ghost

It’s like I’ve been in prison all these years
While you’ve walked free
And it might be foolish to ask but I wonder
Do you ever get sorry?
Sorry for the way you betrayed, misbehaved
Like a bee buzzing from flower to flower

Liars always lie
Liars always lie
Liars always lie
Liars always lie

I left you in a box in the woods
With all the other things that make me hurt
And I thought I lit that box on fire
But when I turned and looked back
There was nothing there but fresh air.

Joseph go away
Joseph go away
Joseph go away
Joseph go away

The author's comments:
I'm primarily a musician, and one day I felt a song coming on. It wasn't until I reread what I'd written that I realized this was repressed anger left over from a big event in my life a few years ago. Then I felt really drained.
