Fallen Angel

Lying cold on the floor among the fallen leaves
her heart pounding a rhythm, trying to break free
shallow breathing, fluttering eyelids
her broken body lying in pieces in bits
Nobody who cares enough to help walks by
Her hopes crumble down as her strength flickers and dies
Dainty deliberate feet trample her wings in vain
she has already lost the will to fly again...
Salty tears dry in tracks on her face
her dramatic flairs lie in shreds of lace
exhaustion frays her nerves and weakens her more
as she fades away into less than folk lore
as darkness creeps over her and exerts its evil claim
a faint pang in her heart says she'll never be home again
as the black resuscitates her, yet crushes her within
she knows she's changing; wearing a new, hard skin
as she returns to life with a dead heart
she looks at the sky with no recognition for stars
as she walks forward with new snow under her feet
she loses all the light she wasn't trying enough to keep
with darkness inside her now, she fought no more
she repents a little before beginning to soar
the night swallows her like it did before
she floats away like a dream you can't remember any more...
With the doors of heaven snapped shut, delicate and white
she sheds not a tear as she lets go of the light
As she embraces the dark as a line she has crossed
healed to death, she now wanders without being lost.
