Deer in the Yard
I saw a deer in my yard.
Actually, a doe, white-tailed.
She peered back at me and blinked slowly, trusting.
Her body turned towards me to reveal a gash on her hip. she was afraid, but not of me.
I closed my curtains and slipped out the front door, only to find her gone. Would there still be footprints in the mud? I could not bring myself to check.
