Darkness
There's so much darkness
The sun that shone on her smile
The candles that brought her peace
The fairy lights that lit up her room
All gone
Forgotten
Like my face, I suppose
My name, surely
No longer fits so neatly on her lips
As easy and natural as her own
Sounding so much sweeter
Than when I spat it out
The darkness took that too
The light that saved my life
I don't know if I can save hers
We'll find out soon enough
As the darkness closes in
Enclosing us both
I look for that flicker of light
In her eyes
As she recognizes me
But it's not there
Her sparkling emeralds
Instead show faint nostalgia
Like seeing an actor
From your old favorite show.
