Sharks Don't Sleep
Sharks don’t sleep
They may deceive you with their closed eyes
Still bodies
Quiet minds
But they are always there
Just below the surface
Bumping into the glass sides of their aquarium in my head
Keeping me from sleep
They whisper to me
When no one else is looking
Listening in
Their lifeless eyes watching
Waiting
The sharks know everything
Because they never sleep
They simply don’t have the time.
Sharks don’t sleep
Eyes roll back
Fins barely skimming the surface
No matter how peaceful they seem
They never dream
Teeth, sharp and ridged
Rip into me like your words
They break the screaming silence at night
Lipless jaws open
Testing the waters, feeling my thoughts
Dulling my senses
Making me colorblind
But this life is in color
And the next in red
The sharks know everything
Because they never sleep
They simply don’t have the time
