home is what you are to me
not the kind I grew up in
But the one that welcomes me
The one that hears the thoughts in my head when I can't sleep
you embrace me when the outside world is too much
You keep me safe and caged away from harm
you are the familiar
not the window to my home but the window to my soul
you know me because I've been here long enough
and so have you... you are home
The one that doesn't make me feel alone

The author's comments:

I was inspired to write this poem because of all the great firendships I've come across in my life. They are my escape from family issues and the loneliness my own house brings. They are home to me but the kind that welcomes me.
