Burnt Matches
We were like two matches
Covered in gasoline.
We burned
Too fast,
Too bright,
Taking up eve bit of air
Around us
But eventually the flames
Died.
And despite our efforts,
The ashes would not,
could not,
Spark back to life.
In our pride
We kept trying,
Hoping for a little glimmer of
Light.
But there was nothing left
To burn.
Now it's just
You and me.
Two burnt matches,
Struggling for air
