Freedom

I sit and stare at her auburn hair,

And wonder why she’s luckier than I
Why is it that by skin color that decides who is better than who?
Why should it matter the color of your skin
That decides who will win at life

A bird that stalks down his narrow cage can
Seldom see through his bars of rage
His wings are clipped, his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.

Why is our society so divided
We are living in the same building
But it has been split into two sides
We all seek the same prize
We will never achieve it if we continue
Down this path of hate

We must seek out love
In this hate filled world
We must be a shining light
In this darkness

We must come hand in hand
We have our differences
But those don’t matter
The free bird thinks of another breeze

And the trade winds soft through the sighing trees

We must stop going down this path
We must stand tall and walk hand in hand
We all deserve freedom
But a caged bird stands on the
Grave of dreams
His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream

We all deserve freedom

I am 18 years old and I am currently in my senior year of High School. DIfferentiality and racism is something I have never liked. Personally I've struggled with  being different because of my family situation. I wrote this to shine a light on those who feel that they don't matter and they don't need to be afraid to fight for freedom.
