the death of an Austrian-Hungarian leader
started the first ever great war
the war brought a death eating reaper
as the death rate sore

the triple alliance was the central power
the ottomans join in on the fight
against the entente power 
the sides thought they knew who was right

europe was in despair
with the rise of tensions
in the beginning of trench warfare
the continent divided into sections


the zimmerman telegram was deciphered
germany seeking help from mexico
U.S. learning what U.K. acquired
realizing they added another domino

the allies blockade the north sea
with the opposite using the first tanks
as they reign supreme 
generals move through the ranks

U.S. remains neutral
out of europe's way
the germans being more brutal
europeans not wanting to stay

the final straw gets pulled
the russians pull out with a trite idea
leaving world to be fooled
as the russians said see ya 

 

U.S. enters the war
after wilson gives a speech
this opens a new door
with a victory in reach

looking at the ground
seeing the unseeable
death all around
the end is uninsurable

after one battle to another
the end looks so far away
soldiers having a small mutter
with army's starting to sway

the kaiser flees from home
to live another day
leaving a wasteland to roam
as the treaty of versailles gets the last say
