#MeToo

“What were you wearing”
Me Too
“Did you smile back?”
Me Too
“Maybe you provoked him”
Me Too
“It isn’t that serious”
Me Too
“Why don’t you just tell someone?”
Me Too, Me Too, Me Too, Me Too.
I hear his name and I flinch
I smell alcohol and feel like crying
To think that I was the only one
On the other side of the screen was a girl
Who also felt the same
Both quiet for 10+ years.
Both friends for 15
Not knowing that they both have been sexually harassed by the same man, silent and having nightmares. Flinching because someone touched their shoulder. Breathing hard as someone touched their waist.
Their innocence both taken, by the same man.
But yet as many other women and girls experience this, society and news let men of authority continue with these attitudes.
“Shh it’s between you and me”
Me Too
“It’s because I love you”
Me Too
“Don’t cry, you don’t look pretty when you cry”
Me Too, Me Too, Me Too

The author's comments:

To anyone who has ever experienced sexual abuse or harassment, you are not alone and it is not your fault. This can happen to anyone at any age ( I was 7 she was 6) just because it hasn’t happened to you, does not mean you should not be aware. Thank you.
