The birds breathe it first
Underneath it all, you wonder when
she will give you up, throw you out to the ocean
so she can feel you being swallowed. And now you
cling to her shoulders because there was a time
she would turn around and cry out her devotion but
now she walks away and her footprints look like a bottomless
pit. You feel your hands slip so you use your words
and then you remember her saying you can't feel it
if it doesn't exist
