The Facade
I am a chameleon
With millions of identities
Yet only one body morphing into these overwhelming facades
As if my skin continuously sheds a layer revealing a person of the unknown
I am a volcano
A mask of emotions waiting to burst into an explosion of scorching lava
Flooding into the minds of the people surrounding me
As I violate the shelters of their identities into ruins from my interminable flow of despair
Until they are left with nothing but my lingering picture creeping into their nightmares
I am an onion
With a dent ever so slight
Yet deep enough to be catastrophic
Friends, family, acquaintances
A different mask taking leadership with each confrontation
Skins of glee, wit, and tranquility peel away as experiences are overcome
Joyous?
Sorrowful?
A decision that is not left to me
In the end
After millions of steps are taken
Light steps onto puffy clouds of promise
Or heavy pounding steps leaving a footprint as I surpass
One “decision” is left to be made;
The chameleon will always be a chameleon
The volcano will always be prepared to burst
And the onion will always have more skins to shed
Which do I inhabit today?
Like I even have a choice…
