On the Ground

On the ground, there I lay!
Torn, battered
Beaten and broken.
Crying for help, but you don’t notice.

On the ground, there I lay-
As you ride your bike,
Eat ice cream, laugh with your friends,
As I give up and just wait to die.

On the ground, there I lay.
No one notices.
I lay there in the burning sun,
Ready to pass on.

On the ground, there I lay,
Tears running down my face.
I close my eyes as the pain becomes too much.
My life is ending soon, I know it.

On the ground, there I lay;
As you drive your car by.
Suddenly, I hear you stop.
And exit your car.

On the ground, there I lay,
When I hear you walking up to me.
You picked me up
And took me to shelter.

On the ground, where I once laid,
No one paid attention to me.
Then you came along, mended me.
Now I’m alive again.
