Sunset on the Grand Canyon
Time was running out
And we had only just arrived.
The sky was rapidly changing
From flaming red to citrus orange to prismatic purple.
The chilly November breeze ran right through me.
My mother was a determined woman,
Seeking out the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the Grand Canyon.
She was set on a mission
And not even the massive elk passing by could make her falter.
The ledge we came upon had a breathtaking view.
The deep canyon seemed to stretch forever.
Even my fear of falling couldn’t stop me from getting close to the edge,
To just open my eyes and take in the entire scene.
We were all lost for words,
Especially my mother who broke down in tears.
No other view could beat that one
And no words can describe the true beauty of nature.
