No Words
I can hear the casual morning words
spoken by my friends
but I cannot join their conversation.
And I listen to the tense debate in class
but I have no voice
or defense for my stance.
I have never laughed at a joke
or cheered for a school team.
All I can do is nod and smile,
patiently waiting for one sound of hope
to break free from my breath.
