Burning Memories

She looked into the fire ring and lit a flame
The dry wood was soon engulfed in flames
Sheets of paper
Memories
Resting in her hands

A tear falls from her eye
And splashes on her cheek
She tosses the papers in
One by one they sink into the flame
Pictures of him turn black, burn, then crumble to ashes
The letters cause an explosion of color in the pit
Red, blue, and purple fill the flame
She watches the smoke as it rises higher and higher
Into the night sky

“This is your fault” she whispers with a crack in her voice
The memories burn to ashes
The air full of choking smoke
Soon the flame dies down
She goes inside
Never to think of the past again
