Heart and Sole This work has been published in the Teen Ink monthly print magazine.

Some pin their hearts on their sleeves,
Or chains sliding down their necks,
Or clips woven into brightly streaked hair.
I wear my heart, large and bright,
On the bottom of my Converse low-tops,
Crusted with dried dirt that has long since hardened
On the glow-in-the-dark rim
That envelops shiny, clear vinyl
In which my purple-and-yellow-patterned socks show through.
They stretch up to my knees,
Slightly crumpled, uneven and striking.
Winding and folding down long tan legs
And into size 10 low-tops hugging size 10 feet
That have never longed for the caressing softness
Of gentle sheepskin in Australian boots.
With neon stockings pulled over them,
My thin, long feet progress into
Thin, long toes, irregular and bent by nature.
Tips dipped in shiny cobalt and midnight charcoal,
The brilliant colors are useless and hidden.
I wear my heart large and bright, though unseen,
On the bottoms of my shoes.
Shown only through the acts of jumping, kicking, or falling,
Dirtied with mud and worn from miles,
I pin my heart proudly on my sole.

When I first saw the title I was going to comment on the fact that "sole" is spelt "soul" in that context, but based on what the poem is about, i understand that you ment to do it. Lovley peop, very creative!

I love this poem for it's uniqueness. It also has a very interesting tone to it and the symbolisim is gret. Amazing!

Would you mind checking out my poems "Girl Next Door" "Longing For Those Days" and "Captured By Reflections" ? I'm new to teen ink and really would like some feedback. Thanks!

I may have commented before, but i really do love this poem, and i really, really love converse too. I have a pink pair that are old and scuffed and dirty and i love them, and i have a blue pair that are fairly new with a drawn heart on the bottom too :)

Is putting your heart under your shoe supposed and being happy about it supposed to represent self-inflicted depression? Or is this a be-yourself type poem with a original, but strange, twist? Either way, this poem is great.

If you like this, check out my poem, "True Colors", and leave some good feedback!!! (^_^)

this poem is a locked door. i know there is seriously deep meaning behind the door, but you left out the key. i want to know what this means to YOU. give me the key, so i can open this door.
