"But man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself"(Rachel Carson).

"You can't save all of the shots, but you must believe you can" (Anonymous).

The teachers wanna eat my soul,

My face is stuck to the cereal bowl.

My eyes and limbs are very heavy,

I think I'll fall into the levee.

The bus will crash into a tree,

Imagine all the things to happen to me!

I'll trip and stumble down the stairs,

I'll get attacked by dancing bears.

You'll be bummed when I am gone away,

I feel my face starting to decay!

When I'm in school, I'll just faint,

'Cuz I drank a gallon of lead paint!

Please don't let me go to school,

That would be so very cruel.

The author's comments:

This piece is one of my favorite poems. I was inspired by Shel Silverstein's "Sick" and mimiced his rythm of his poem. I think it is a very humorous depiction of a young child creating creative and absurd alibis to excuse himself from school. I believe we all have experienced a day where we just did not want to go to school or work.
