A tree scab
A reminder of the past
A swollen wound steadily healing.
The amputation below the collar
Slumping squalor
Bleeding sap
Exposes the flesh
And is nature’s mauler
Ancient scars and the raw callus
Are sealing
Until revealing
A course knob smaller
To replace the limb
healing.
