Flowers
When I met you,
I truly loved for the first time.
A love so pure and strong.
Within me, asters bloomed.
Powerful hues of red,
The patience of my love.
And the lilies,
Began their growth.
A wonderful, cherished innocence.
But as time passes,
All things come to an end.
An inevitable death.
In the soil of the dead,
Marigolds sprouted with proud cruelty.
Sad nuances of orange.
And the marigolds grew and grew,
Until they became a garden,
Of vermillion, weeping petals.
I lay here, in this bed of flowers,
Waiting for your return,
For what seems an eternity.
But at our reunion,
Birds of paradise shall sing your name.
An ode of jubilation.

By using the symbolism of lilies, asters, marigolds, and birds of paradise, I attempted to capture the cycle of a first love and how it ends in sad departure. I truly think that these flowers possess a literary power to represent the many stages of different types of love. By just using a few, I really wanted to capture the sensations and longing that seemingly harmonized with these described flowers.
