Field of Fates
The racism that stands today
stands beside the players who play the game,
beside the owner who owns the field
the field of fates that have been sealed.
Behind the glass are peering eyes
admiring their one true prize
the prize of power to control men,
men that have been robbed again.
There is freedom given to those who ask
but they have to earn it through a task,
a task they chose but for a price
the price the owner feels is right.
But there is no pay in being harrassed
by those who know that nothing's passed
because racism is alive today
through those who think that it's okay.
There are those who entertain
and support the unchanged chains,
the chains that grew and grew so fast
between now and the constant past.
There's a field of fates that have been sealed,
by the owners that own the field
and the racism that stands strong today
stands beside the players that play the game.

I wrote this poem about 6 months ago for my ex-boyfriend, because he needed inspiration for an English project about racism in sports. I only told him the first three stanzas and then later finished the poem on my own because I felt strongly about the subject. I hope that people in our society can soon identify the issues that racism has caused because justice is long overdue, not only in America, but around the world.
