The books on my bed
Are filled with your stories
I could dedicate my life to the study of You
And still not know why you left me

I called you Eve
Because man was made from you
Your mischief the only one responsible
To send humanity into
A whirlpool of sin

Your smile started the
Great Migration
You taught me the life cycle
With the pucker of your lips
Those lips,
That could start wars just by the
Sweet structure of them

You were like a cave
You started out small
But the great rains through the years
Made you hard

But,
Inside you is where treasure lied
You were all the gold in the mine
The Spaniards worshiped your footsteps
The Anglos offered you gifts
The Indians painted your hands on every surface

Like Noah and the Ark
Your tears drowned the only life we knew
Your sobs like
Atomic bombs
Destroying every part of me
Leaving only debris that will never be recovered
How nuclear can you be?

I’m still deciding if I think you are
Heaven or hell
I want to believe you’re the rainbow after the rain
But your rolling clouds prove me otherwise
