It Happened After Yesterday
Yesterday I saw a man with holey socks, a over-sized coat and a forgetful memory.
He couldn't tell me what city he was in let alone our presidents name.
Nevertheless he sparked a conversation, asking questions kindergarten teachers asked.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"What's your favorite color?"
But he asked something no one knew.
"What's my name?"
I tried to understand how someone I never met can ask me their name.
I looked with such confusion wondering why or how he could ask me that.
"James Tobias Richard"
as he grabbed his basket and hobbled off.
It happened after yesterday when I realized what that man taught me.
He lost his whole life and everything he worked for.
But one thing he did not lose was himself.
It wasn't until yesterday that I knew who I was.
It happened after yesterday that Mr. James Tobias Richard found me before I found myself.
