The African elephant, peaceful
Hunted for ivory tusks.
Elephants, they were killed years ago.
You refused to help them, why
‘cause no one will change what doesn’t affect them
Rhinos--the same story.
Elegant horns used for medicine.
Gone like dinosaurs, never to be seen again.
Opportunities to help, abundant.
“Never again,” you say and yet
it has started
again.
Everyone falls if nothing changes

Will you still stand idly by
While animal species are wiped out
one--by--one
Slowly yet inevitably
Gone...

This is a poem from the perspective of someone in the future instructing the new generation why we should prevent animal extinction.
