The salty air filled his nose
His feet patted down the rocks
He lept off the rock with powerful legs,
Diving headfirst into the chilling water
His muscles rippled as his separate kicks
Turned into one solid stroke.

Taking a deep breath
He dove deeper
Legs melting into one
Skin turning to rubber
He shuddered at the feel
He looked down at himself
The gray skin looking normal to him

His new speed propelled his body into the air
Water droplets sparkling like jewels
Sliding under, he zig-zagged
Playing just like the dolphin his lower half was
Stretching his long, strong body out
He turned on a dime, heading back to shore

Floating in the shallow water
He stared at the stars
Blue eyes shining
His tail split into two
Returning to their normal color and look
The water reflected the full moon
Causing his skin to glimmer and shine
He couldn’t tell where water ended
And where sky started.

I have been in the mood to write about mermaids for awhile and now I've finally done it!
