It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.
Leonardo da Vinci

The sky has always looked so beautiful here.
She laughs and blushes pink puffs of clouds.
She shy’s behind her hands of returning birds.
A glimpse of blue eye is batted here and there as she slowly spins in her dress of winters last snow.
Her long black hair stretches against the sky-her split ends still in the quiet air.
I run my fingers through the jagged sticks and slide them along the frozen, empty ground.
In their exploration-they find my faithful weapon.
I pet him, like a hunter pets his best dog, knowing he stayed with me till' the end.
My foot feels my best friends thigh-we were both hit-blown sky high.
I grit my teeth as a bitter sweet tear slips from my eye.
My comrades-every last one- lays on the ground, side by side.
It was just yesterday that we all joked by fire light.
Eating, reminiscing, playing cards with rocks as our bet.
A deep breath in, a deep breath out-I shall soon take my last.
I feel her giddy eyes on me-she knows I am coming soon.
Yes indeed, I shall meet her soon.
My head feels light yet painless, I fall places I've never been.
I feel my own blood trickle down my skin.
And I know, I shall never have to go to war again.

I wrote this in honor of our fallen solders. I don't know any of those folks, but they are extremely brave. If you know one, tell himher that I said thank you.
