Don't forget to fall inlove with yourself first -Carrie Bradshaw

Always wanted to grow up faster
Be able to help mom in the kitchen
Or dad in the yard
Been eying that rollercoaster for 3 years now
Never understood why your older brother got to go out
And you had to stay home and watch cartoons.
Not that you were complaining of course
But wouldn’t a little freedom be great
No let’s slow it down
Take it slow.
Enjoy life as it is now

Been sick of all this work
Worn down by the kids
Wanting to sit and relax
Waiting to retire to a warm place
Envying your parents as they call
From somewhere in Spain
You’re in chilly New York paying your tax
But doesn’t aging in paradise sound great.
No let’s slow it down
Take it slow
Enjoy life as it is now

Stuck in a bed all day
Nurses come in and out to attend to your needs
Can barely see your four grandchildren
Can barely stand up too
Trapped in a room all day
Waiting for your time to come
Slow it down
Take it slow
Enjoy life as it is now

This poem was inspired by the poem “A Pace Like That” by Yehuda Amichi. In his poem, Amichi describes how life often goes by too fast. I took his idea of taking life slowly and transformed it into a poem. I wanted to portray the urge for life to go by quickly during the three primary stages of human life: child, adult, and elder. We often rush through life and dont time to fully enjoy every living moment. Because of this, by the time we die, we have not really lived.
