Ivory
Ivory sounds like crisp waves
Crashing into the sand like fireworks
In July.
When you
feel like diving deep into
The ocean, swimming farther
Down than before,
Gasping for the air that will never come.
It will only come if you go up.
Ivory pushes up.
It calls your name as
You get lost in wanderlust,
Brings you back to the tide
Where the seaweed swims.
Back to the sand and
Glamour
Of the open air.
Ivory is open air.
It rips you open like a
Doctor and his scalpel,
Searching for the piece gone
Awry,
Gone lost,
Gone afraid of the black night.
My mother told me that only
Fools swim in the dark.
Stay here, little one, where
Your soul can shine like the
Tusks of elephants before
Those jealous of their beauty
Crack and pry
Until all that’s left is
the ugly
and the beaten.
Ivory is the antidote
To the most villainous moons.
The ones that pry you open
With their scalpel and
Steal your tusks.
Ivory is knowing you’re whole
When those powerful pronounce
Your ivory, sleek, radiant mind
Unholy by nature.
Show your ivory.
Show your waves that crash
Like celebrations,
showcasing the beacon
Ivory can be.
