The Rabbit Doll
Rabbit Doll dies on an oak shelf.
Remind me of the times when life was good.
Slide after slide and Hide to my every seek
Holds the stories,
of my many summer haunts.
The doll looks and sees
Greatest gift,
A dusting from months to years,
Feathers grow
But only flutter.
Never more than just part of the clutter.
Oh Rabbit! My Rabbit! Our fearful trip is done;
Never Hop, Never think,
Follow the Warren, Our shadows sings
Cries the chronicles of love we shared. Shame the time is past.
Forgive the favors that we owe
I know you tried,
“Mom, I’m an adult, I don’t need a rabbit doll.”
