The red, white, and blue sign stuck in the front yard.
The bumper sticker staring down my throat.
The button with a face of someone I don’t even know.

The reds, whites, and blues.
Shining like dying stars in a distressed sky
Differences?
Advancements?
Change?

I see none.
Nothing.
An anthem ringing in the back of my brain.
I am done, have given up.

But

A new age is emerging
When people will realize that
We are not from colors, labels, classes
But straight from stardust, energy, and love

That change does not require conditioning
And advancements mean nothing –
If made in spite of your neighboring opponent

However, remain not trusting everything you hear
Because the system is pretty damn queer
This doesn’t mean you can be rude
Open your heart, show respect to the crude
For they need as much help as you.

And remember that education is not the enemy
But the way we are taught
To mold, melt, make our brains think something else
That what we are taught
Is based on fictional facts
And we are trained like puppies in a cage to regurgitate them right back

What we need to learn
Is how to close the textbooks for a moment
Darken the devices
And breathe.
Find what’s important
What makes your heart pull at its strings
You see, passion is more pressing than a PSAT
And you can’t truly understand something until it is experienced.
Until you breathe a moment in and feel it.
Hand in hand with life comes learning
But as of now we are left with a generation yearning
For something more real
Than glowing figures on a screen.

As a human
It’s time for you to forget
Your separational instincts
Your judgmental intents
Because you are a human
You don’t belong to any country, state, or city
You were born unto Mother Earth
And any sort of imaginary line is not at all worth
Blood.
There are no borders, boundaries, or barriers
When it comes to love

Because we are all straight from stardust

So for the human race, have empathy
We are all struggling endlessly
But it’s not time to end,
You see – you have purpose, it will be found
As the Earth keeps turning round and around
Though you can’t just sit and wait on a clock
That’s just a lie – the tick tock can’t be stopped

Don’t continue waiting on change
It will come in this Aquarian age
Not with a new president, dictator, prime minister, no.
Change comes from inside
Once we finally stop trying to hide
Real people will rise up
Just like the tide.

My experiences with different spiritualities inspired me to write how I feel about the current state of our world.

"...I wrote because that was who I was at the core, and if I was too damaged to walk around the block, I was lucky all the same. Once I got to my desk, once I started writing, I still believed anything was possible.”
