The Curving of the Lips

A curve of the lips.
A twitch of the cheeks
causing a slight swelling of the mouth
stretching and pulling,
sketching a mark of sweet simplicity across the face.

A sign of pleasure
enjoyment
sweet simplicity
a “Please, Do Tell” gesture.

To another,
the meaning is clearly a happy one.

Can one trick of the lips determine feelings?

The mouth, taking this form
does this action send signals to the brain,
whispering,
“Commence The Happy Thoughts”?


Or else,
Can the inside feel wrong,
Masked by the moon
that lays across, crescent cupping the cheeks
calm.
trapping the struggle inside
muscles straining
dimples deepening
the burn a cold one
masking the hurt.

True, the lips may curve
but only to catch the tears.
