Have you ever seen anarchy?
Felt its bloody taste
Lingering in your mouth?
Have you ever felt the mechanical movement
Of order and control
Strings binding you like a puppet, stranded
And now someone else’s pawn
In a fatal game of chess.

Have you ever felt fear?
Watched it as it crept up your spine
A million centipedes all over your helpless body
Have you ever smelled it?
That wretched scent that your predator picks up on
Like a bloodhound does a criminal
Running for dear life
Adrenaline pumping through every vein
You know there’s no escape
But you still fight just as a good soldier would.

Have you been in the presence of love?
I’m talking about true honest-to-goodness love
Not that childish infatuation
Adolescences call “love.”
Have you felt the energy
That flows between two souls
When they are connected?
It’s more powerful than an ox
And faster than the speed of light
Like the racing of your heartbeat
After seeing that “thing” in the corner of your eye.

Have you tasted freedom?
Felt the wind upon your face
Stretched out your arms
And finally let yourself go?
Have you ever let your bird
Finally out of its cage
And watched it soar
Over yonder
And fade off into the sun?

Go!
And let your footsteps guide you where they may
Take every opportunity you can
To seize the day!
