I am not a hipster,
For though I craft my words
with care
Though I choose them lovingly
Placing each where it belongs,
Nurturing it to it’s full potential
I seek understanding
A smile
Communication
through the choreography of
each syllable.

I do not pretend to be
a writing genius.
I do not fancy myself
A Hawthorne
or Thoreau.

I am just a girl
Keeping record of
her life
the words that
flow from my mind
through my fingers
to the page.

There was a guy in my class last year who did his reading in a steady, low, monotone. I was in speech judge mode, offering comments on rate, volume, and expression and was rather ticked off when he told me he was doing it on purpose…
