Feathers
I've been thinking about angels
And how they fly with feather soft wings
I wonder what it feels like
When the world's backdrop is rich
in orange and red
to be engulfed in that warmth
I wonder what the moon looks like
when a head is so far above the clouds
with no city smoke to smudge out the stars
with blurry grey lines
I wonder what raindrops taste like
far before they fall
fall
and hit
the soiled earth
I wonder what it must feel like
to have wings outstretch
from my back
the back that he has broke
by giving too much
I wonder what hands
un-scratched and un-calloused from
the luxury of love
feels like on bruised skin
I wonder what it must taste like
freedom
I wonder what heaven smells like
maybe cotton or flannel
something clean and pure like
feathers
I wonder what emotions ran through
the sun's rays when it first realized
that is was
slowly
burning
out
I've been thinking about angels
And I wonder what it feels like to be
wrapped in your own wings.
