Favorite Quote:
"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
-St. Augustine

its fall;
leaves crash around me
once so high and mighty
now are going to take a little nap
on the ground
prescriptions written to those
who maybe just need some time
to discover who they want to be
and where they want to go
flowers just waiting to spring
up from the ground
after a nap in the fall
and suddenly
there is peace in being alone

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece after I had stepped outside one afternoon and realized that it had become fall in the blink of an eye. I thought of students going off to college, with their struggles of trying a long distance relationship, or breaking one off, when they were feeling like the top of the world as a senior in high school. To not let anyone tell you who you are and what you want in this beautiful life.
