Favorite Quote:
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds. -Bob Marley

The creators of the world died,
But they are still alive,
In the cracks of school walls,
In the glimmer of veteran medals,
In the creases of our grandparents wrinkles,
In the patter of children's feet,
Woven in our freedom to speak,
These people live on.

The beings that walked and fought,
Held their artillery with pride,
But their weapon was no gun,
It was the mind grasping the piece,
It was the humanity,
The desire for peace,
The need for love,
It was the unity of humans,
It was spirit,
These people sacrificed their lives for strangers,
Knowing they may not live to see change,
But they chose to fight anyway.

In their dying,
They chose to live,
For us to live,
These strangers,
These individuals,
These people,
Our ancestors,
Their bodies rest,
Their lives infinite,
Thank you,
Miigwetch,
You saved us.

(I was on the subway after the 1812 historic ceremony today. While sitting there, I decided to write a poem. Here is the thought.)
