I sat
Hunched and fermenting
A young, pained root with
Spiderwebs of light on skin.
My eyes distanced
Two yolks gleaning away
From each other.
Absentminded and forgetful
Growing lazy in the hot tub of growing old.
I sat there
That day
Or night
I can’t remember
And I read a page from the book of life,
letting it pass through me unabsorbed
Like a bored student to a craft I knew nil of.
