"He lives the poetry that he cannot write. The others write the poetry that they dare not realize"~Oscar Wilde

Dead dear on the side of the street
Don't fear now
You're out of misery

Headlights shining
You're paralyzed
Horns are honking
But you don't acknowledge the signs

I thought your ignorance opened my eyes
Can't be a dear in the headlights
Now I'm running away from my car
I'm not so fast
I don't get so far

Never thought to turn left of right
Out of sight
Out of mind
But not out of fright
I'm like a deer
I'm not very bright

I got my eyes
Caught in the headlights
I whipped around and sprinted away
Running in a straight line didn't buy me another day
I never turned so I was still in your way
Unlike the deer, I survived
Now I'm just happy to still be alive
I learned to cross the street with more grace
I parted with my car, we went separate ways

Now the shoes on the other foot
I see you running away
That's when I realize is a pretty good day

The poem is like a metaphor. You are the deer and your problems are the car. If you run from them they'll catch you but if you go in a different direction they'll subside.
