Sadie Hawkins Dance
I walked up the sidewalk to the doors,
My thoughts whimsical
And my step unsteady,
Where he stood ahead
With a box of European Chocolate
Wrapped in elegant red and white ribbon
And a smile of awe,
Like he was looking at an angel.
He took my jacket
Then my hand
As he escorted me into
An unfamiliar world
Where it wouldn’t matter
If you knew each other
Or if you just met;
We were just wishing for a good time.
When the beat slowed
And harmonized with our hearts,
He held my hand,
Soft and sweaty,
Intertwined his fingers with mine,
And swayed left and right,
Left and right,
And he whispered in my ear,
“You are so beautiful.”
