I approach the glowing
neon shack with an ice cream
swirl on top.
A sweet smell
of vanilla invades my nostrils,
as I approach the counter
and my mouth starts to water.
Heart racing,
I look at the whiteboard.
What’s the flavor of the week?
Strawberry Butter?
Black Berry?
Key Lime?
Yes-
Orange Dreamcicle.
I place my order
and begin to drool.
The orange and vanilla
Twirl and coil into the cone
like a snake.
The worker hands me a perfect masterpiece:
A Twist cone.
The hot summer air
Makes it steam with flavor.
I take a lick,
and the creamy goodness
slides down my throat.
I close my eyes and smile
as milky citrus makes my taste buds leap.
I devour it in seconds
and dream about when I can visit
this magical place again.
