Hero
As if it were yesterday,
I remember the smell of my sweet pea perfume
That filled the aroma in my room.
The comfort ness it gave me as I walked through
The big white door.
I remember the flower bed spread with soft purple sheets
That covered my bed.
I would lay there at night and stare at the ceiling
Reminiscing about the events that took place that day.
I remember the neighborhood roller hockey games
Kids vs. parents.
Girls being the cheerleaders of course.
I remember my mom cutting the lawn
With her CD player and old work boots on,
She so called “did a mans job” every week.
I remember sleepovers at my friends’ house
Multiple times in a row during the summer.
Playing dress up in our silky pink and white tacky gowns,
Watching the Lizzie McGuire Movie with bowls of buttered popcorn.
I remember the little room below the stairs
Where we would hide.
The old carpet cold and stained a light cappuccino color from its original white.
I remember how happy I was living in that house
With my family and all of my friends around,
But there was one thing missing from this wonderful life.
The sun wouldn’t shine as bright,
The birds wouldn’t chirp as loud.
He watches over me proud and at ease
As I look up to him, my hero.
