You can hear it in the hallways
Just bouncing off the walls
That word they say so often
With zero thought at all
And I want to tell them
“You can’t use that word
You don’t know what it means.”
But I don't
Why? Because they won’t listen.
I could explain but they’ll forget.
They’ll go back to using that word again.

Even a word this powerful can lose its meaning over time
But the boys in our towns are keeping it alive.
And every time that word comes out of their mouths
I think to myself, “You can’t use that word.
You see, I’ve claimed it.
That word belongs to me.”

In my school there are several people who think they have the right to say certain words that have been used to discriminate towards certain marginalized groups.
