His First Birthday Without Him
His first birthday without him
Him being Jim
Jimbo Hardy
Not really his last name
But he was one of them
Connected at the hip to my father
Born the same day
Two kids out playing ball
Two teens and young adults
Going through life's struggles
Together
Always the same age
Always the same grade
Two old men sitting
Watching the game they once played
The sun rises
The sun sets
Jimbo was never as successful as my father
He had his good times
He had his bad
He was best friends,
Best friends with my dad
Soon their birthday will pass
Then Christmas
And all the other holidays
And now as half a year has past
I ask my father
"tell me, tell me about the guy who once hung out with my dad."
