A dark bird's cry
in the empty desert
a mermaid's silver tear
in the turgid sea
the hushed, eerie calm
in the eye of a storm
a swallow's last aching note
lost in the clouds
the sharp knives of wind
which beat on the roof
a double-locked door
a house void of laughter
