A Gentle Form of Melancholy

I found a boy,
and loved him right away.

he loved me back,
and he was here to stay.

it fell apart,
a little at a time.

our silence grew,
hearts askew and without rhyme.

Just today,
it broke in two,
my fragile, bitter heart.

Just today,
I promised you,
with one chance more,
we’d restart.

Just today,
he left my side,
no longer here to stay.

Just today,
I cried and cried,
that he had gone away.

Tomorrow I,
wings torn and ripped,
will fly again,
once more.

Tomorrow I,
with broken heart,
will live without him,

Tomorrow I,
will sigh and smile,
no longer teary-eyed.

Tomorrow I,
hope for today,
I no longer wish to cry.

he loved me back,
but look at it today.

I want it back,
and want it,
to stay.

Just today,
I’ll hold in me,
a gentle, broken love.

Just today,
for a short while,
I’ll be his turtledove.

Tomorrow I,
will fly away,
leaving love behind.

Tomorrow I,
with gentle smile,
another shall I find.

I loved him so,
a love bitter,
a love true.

Today I live,
with you in me,
and yet,
not I in you.

Tomorrow I,
live again alone,
and happier than before.

Tomorrow I,
will leave this place,
and fly through that open door.
